During several recent training classes, it has come to our attention that many, if not all, of the major “Big Guys” such as Lowe’s and Home Depot are requiring all of their subcontractors be EPA RRP Certified Firms and their employees maintain EPA RRP Certified Renovator Certificates.
This new development is due to the fact that the EPA is out in full-force prowling neighborhoods and jobsites seeking out contractors that are not in compliance with Renovation Repair and Painting Rule (40 CFR Part 745.225). Many fines have been levied in recent months and will continue to be enforced in the immediate future.
It is our recommendation that if you are pursuing work as a subcontractor for major companies, even mid-size or small companies, be sure that your employees are EPA RRP certified. Do not lose out on a avenue of potential revenue just for the fact that you are not EPA RRP Certified as a firm and your employees are not trained and certified according to the Renovation Repair and Painting Rule guidelines.
